ponderous poetry for the hoi polloi

Butterfly

XII

If you’re short of change

I’ll be your piggy bank,

And let you raid my porcine riches.

XI

If you have too much tonic

I’ll be your half-bottle of Tanqueray,

And we can be a match made in heaven.

X

If you forget your PIN

I’ll be your lucky number,

And fill your pockets with gold.

IX

If you miss your train

I’ll be your private chauffeur,

And take you around the world.

VIII

If your heater conks out

I’ll be your wooly jumper,

And keep you toasty and warm.

VI

If you go hungry

I’ll be your court jester,

And fill you up with good cheer.

V

If you can’t walk

I’ll be your camel and howdah,

And hold you in high regard.

IV

If you go blind

I’ll be your optical illusion,

So you can see what you want to see.

III

If you can’t breathe

I’ll be your iron lung,

And stay close to your heart.
